Transportation in Prague

Prague has an extensive infrastructure of integrated public transportation, which consists of Prague Metro, trams, buses, rails, ferries and the Petřín funicular.

All services have a single ticket system operated by Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy (Transportation company of Prague) and other companies. The basic ticket costs 26 CZK and is valid for 75 minutes for all services, including Prague Metro, trams, Petřín funicular and more. Childrens up to the age of 6 and seniors over the age of 70 with a valid ID travels for free, with the exception of ČD trains. Prague Metro

Metro consists of 3 lines (green A, yellow B and red C) with 57 stations in total. The transit between lines is possible on stations Museum (A and C), Florenc (B and C) and Mustek (A and B). The ticket must be validated at the entrance or before and it is transferable. Metro schema (PDF) is also available at Public transportation website.

Railways

Prague has several trains stations. The main with international trains are Hlavní nádraží and Nádraží Holešovice. There are also many smaller stations, mainly Schmíchovské nádraží and Masarykovo nádraží. All this mentioned are directly connected to Prague Metro and Public transportation.

Prague Airport Ruzyně

If you fly by plane to Prague, you will land at Prague International Airport Ruzyně. The airport complex consists of 3 terminals, shops, restaurants and bars. Terminal 2 is used for flights to/from Schengen Area member countries, Terminal 1 for non Schengen and Terminal 3 for private flights. The airport is situated close to the city and it takes approximately 40 minutes to get there from centre by Public transportation.

The cheapest way to get from/to airport is to use Public transporation bus line 119, which goest to Metro A station Dejvická, or line 100 to Metro B station Zličín, or line 179 to Metro B station Nové Butovice. For this you will need only basic Public transportation ticket.

There is also a direct line from Ruzyně Airport to main train station Hlavní nádraží called AE (Airport Expres), but you will need to buy extra ticket from bus driver.

The other way is to use taxi or some other transportation provider.

Taxi in Prague

It is better to use taxi operated by call-for-taxi companies or from marked taxi stands, which have informations about regulated fare. The other taxi type are independent drivers, who make pickups on the streets and are known for overcharging clients.
